Chris Evans leads pointless Celebrity purchases: beats cake, shoes and babies
May 19th, 2008 | By Richard | Category: Celebrity, Greed and People NewsUK DJ Chris Evans’ wallet made the headlines with a Record 5.5Million purchase of an old Ferrari. He is competing with a host of other celebrities with more-money-than-sense who splash out on things like $5000 Cake, $6000 shoes and er priceless Babies…

BBC DJ Chris Evans has paid more than £5m for a Ferrari - making it the most expensive car ever sold at auction.
The star bought the 250 GT SWB California Spyder, once owned by Hollywood actor James Coburn, in Maranello, Italy.
Evans, 42, paid twice the estimated price for the car at RM Auctions’ Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event.
A little daft if you ask me, paying twice what it was worth, expensive to maintain too - just like the fairer sex who, when it comes to utterly pointless shopping are in a league of their own: Shoes, cakes and babies seem to be in vogue at the moment:
Today Megan Fox is quoted to have said she has gone a bit crazy with the shoe thing:
“I still don’t really spend my money in silly ways. I don’t go and buy cars and stuff like that. But the very first thing I got that was crazy expensive and that I couldn’t believe I’d bought was a pair of Roberto Cavalli, four-inch spike heels. They were black and ornate with gold on the back and carving on the heel. They were $600. Up to that point I think the most I had ever pair for a pair of shoes was $30. That was a really big deal for me and I have to admit that since then I’ve gone crazy with the shoe thing. That’s where I spend my money and it’s really bad.”
Yes, that isn’t silly at all now is it Megan!
Cake for $5000 for the Birthday of the two-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes:

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter celebrated her second birthday yesterday. As we revealed earlier, Kate had been busy preparing for the party. Here’s the cake she picked for her girl !! The guys at PCN explain :
“The four-tier, custom-made birthday cake was made by a local specialty shop and has been adorned with yellow dots and butterflies. There are also 24 miniature cakes for the party guests to enjoy. Total cost: $5,000.”
Babies: Angelina Jolie, Madonna and Mia Farrow are quoted in the Daily Mail as being able to pay their way to the baby they want:

Women of my generation are so consumer-crazy, after decades of Manolo Blahniks and finding the perfect location for a weekend mini-break, a baby is the ultimate buzz purchase. I wonder if you can stick it on your Barclaycard?
I’m sure it’s not too far away.

It’s not the first time Evans has splashed the cash on fancy cars.
In 2000 he famously bought a Ferrari for his future wife Billie Piper, the day after they met - and filled it with roses.
The 18-year-old was said to be “ecstatic”- despite the fact she couldn’t drive.
Following a long-term separation The couple divorced last year and Evans has since married golfer Natasha Shishmanian.
Mantuition: they’re all as stark raving bonkers as each other. Can’t they do something useful with their cash? They earned the money doing sod all and spend it on sod all.
