The long awaited release of the movie Iron Man confirms that Samuel L. Jackson has a cameo appearance in the film as Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Colonel Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Fury is a fictional World War II army hero and present-day super-spy in the Marvel Comics universe. Created by artist Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee, Fury first appeared in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #1 (May 1963), a World War II combat series that portrayed the cigar-chomping Fury as leader of an elite U.S. Army unit. -wiki

In his illustrious career as a fictional CIA agent, Nick Fury was manipulated by the very man who saved his life:

At the end of World War II in Europe, Fury was severely injured by a landmine in France, and was found and healed by a Berthold Sternberg, who used him as a test subject for his Infinity Formula. After making a full recovery, Fury began working for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), precursor of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Six months into his service, he learned the extent of Sternberg’s life-saving operation: The Infinity Formula retarded his aging, and if he did not receive annual doses, he would age rapidly and die. The doctor began a 30-year period of extorting large sums of money from Fury in exchange for the injections.

Nick should have watched where he stepped a little more carefully. As a result, Dr. Berthold Sternberg thought he was onto an unlimited cash-cow but alas he didn’t factor in the cumulative effect of the infinity formula. It seems the Doctor’s arrogance and drive to control his victim lead him into complacency. Thankfully Nick was able to break free of his addiction leaving Dr Sternberg’s annual injections redundant. Nice try Doctor, but you’ll have to do better than that to keep a superhero like Nick Fury down.
