May 26th, 2008 | By John | Category: Advice, Health and bodyStudies show that Lack of sleep can cause a power failure of the brain. behavior disorders in children and women become grumpier than men if they have less sleep! - That should make it clear why YOU should make the bloody breakfast this time!!!!!!
Lack of sleep can have a powerful impact on your brain, according to a new study in the United States. Making the brain go without sleep for even one night could result in instability that could actually make it liable to shutdowns.According to researchers, the shutdowns were brief and at those points, the brain was in limbo apparently, between the sleep and wakeful states. Speaking on the subject, the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine’s David Dinges, the person behind the study, said, “It’s as though it is both asleep and awake and they are switching between each other quite rapidly.”
When the 24 people were denied sleep, the impact could be easily seen, as their brain images showed lapses in memory in a number of key areas. The same pattern was, however, missing in those adults who were subjected to the tests after a period of rest.
A new study shows the effect between sleep disorders and behavior issues in kids
A new study by researchers at Hasbro Children’s Hospital offers a closer look at the association between childhood sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), including snoring and sleep apnea, and behavioral problems like hyperactivity and anxiety.
Somewhat surprisingly, the strongest predictor of adverse behavioral outcomes and CBCL scores was the presence of at least one additional sleep diagnosis, especially insomnia - not the measure of SDB disease severity, which researchers thought would play a more significant role.
Lack of sleep makes women grumpier than men!
Females need far more sleep than men and suffer more mentally and physically if forced to go without it, research suggests.
“The study suggests that poor sleep - measured by the total amount of sleep, the degree of awakening during the night, and most importantly, how long it takes to get to sleep - may have more serious health consequences for women than for men.”We found that for women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress, and greater feelings of hostility, depression and anger.”In contrast, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men.”
Now that you know why you are brain-dead at work, why your kids are failing school and why it’s always your bloody fault you useless bla bla rant rant.
So what steps can you take to get better, deeper and more productive sleep?
